Yesterday I suggested several things that Washer Players could adopt from Cornhole Players. I suggested that Washer Players could Customize, Standardize, BUZZ, and Share.
It wouldn’t be fair to pick on one group and not the other!
This time the tables are turned. Now it’s time to discuss a few areas where Washer Players excel.
Cornhole Players Could Learn from Washer Players
Simplify. What is worth how many points? How far apart should be boards be? With less of a game standard, it’s the “House Rules” in Washer games. Play however you want based on who you have playing. Set the rules up front, and start tossing washers!
Mix It Up! While Cornhole Players play on standard sized boards, Washer Games come in all shapes and sizes. The hole is often 4 inches, but the box can be various sizes, and either octagon or square. There are Washer Pits, one hole boxes, three hole boards, 5 hole boards, and they can lay flat or be ramped. Variety is the spice of life, right?
Portability. While there are smaller or slimmer Cornhole boards, a Washers game can fit almost anyplace. Of the 2 games, Washers is much easier to haul take with you on a moments notice.
Skill. This one might spark some debate! In my opinion, Washer games tend to be much harder. It takes a lot of practice to get the tiny washers into the 4″ hole. There is a wide spread from beginners to seasoned pros. Practice, practice, practice.
These two games really are unique in the types of players that they attract. The best part of playing various games is finding the one or two that you really enjoy. Both of these games are quick to learn and tough to master, and both games can make an afternoon in the sun fly right by.

I actually like the idea of mixing up the distances a little bit for cornhole. Like, in a non-sanctioned match or backyard game that is just for fun, I think it would be fun to have the challenge of different distances, having to arc your shot more some times, or throw a soft little slider. That’s what attracts me to bocce. You throw the marker ball each round and then you have to deal with new terrain, new distances, new shot styles.
They are both fun games but gotta go with cornhole.
