With a new year always comes the desire to do something new. The Outdoor Games Blog is new, of course, but there’s also a new addition at CornholePlayers.net!

We’ve added a new page for Cornhole Product Reviews. I’ve had the unique opportunity to compare new Cornhole bags, as delivered, from several different online retailers. This gave me a chance to see differences in the way different companies put together their Cornhole Bags.

The standard in Cornhole bags the last few years has been said to be 6″x6″ and 16oz ( 1 pound ). If you were to sew your own, that’s probably the size and weight you’d be aiming for. I decided to use this benchmark as a starting point for how I would look at the bags I was checking out. I decided that while a biased review of a sewn bag of corn might be silly, it is interesting to see differences in various bags.

Here’s what I found. Out of 4 sets of bags tested. Weight varied anywhere from 14.2 to 15.6 oz. Generally, each set of bags shipped only varied about .5 oz across all products. Size also stayed consistent across a grouping, and was within half an inch of the 6″ standard for everything I received.

With size and weight pretty standard, I decided to check out sewing differences. This seems to be the one factor where you can spot changes from set to set. I wouldn’t figure that one stitch has much advantage over another, but a couple places put a distinct double stitch on their bags — which at least brings peace of mind.

My final thing to check was filling. As promised, all the bags I received were filled with feed corn, and not popcorn. The exception was the weather proof bags I received from Becca’s Bags. These are filled with a plastic pellets, to give you a worry-free bag to use if moisture is a factor. These bags tend to be filled a little tighter than the corn bags, to make weight, but generally seem like they’d play about the same. I’ll put some serious play time in with these in the Spring and compare in a later post.

Check out the reviews page!

Are you accepting product review comments from other people?

Hmm… yes and no, I guess. For the official reviews page, I want to have hands-on experience with the product. Aside from that, everyone is free to leave reviews of their own in the forum. The buy/sell section would a perfect area to post about great products.

Sorry, man. It’s been a while since I posted. Thanks. I’ll be sure to post my unofficial reviews in that buy/sell section.
